Data interrogation software company Ontotext specializes in translating large volumes of complex data into usable formats like graphs, which clients can use to make data-driven decisions. Their professional services include data modelling and text mining, plus tailor-made training to help clients get the most out of their solutions.    
Ontotext already served clients in industries like education, financial services, and healthcare, but they were interested in bringing other sectors to the forefront of their campaigns.

The Challenge

Due to the nature of the proposition, the Ontotext site is very technical and full of jargon. While this level of detail worked for some target audiences, Ontotext realized that the technical information was not engaging for certain visitors. Existing copy also encouraged prospects to ‘Book a demo’ from the homepage – possibly too early in the sales funnel.  

Government was a key target industry for Ontotext because of the public data they digest and analyze. So, this was a great place to start.

The goal of the project was to create a solid foundation for personalization campaigns that Ontotext could replicate with other industries.  

Our Solution

The challenge for Ontotext was understanding how to maximize personalization efforts on the website. They took a deep dive into the Government industry’s pain points and requirements, plus the most relevant use cases.  

Rather than just changing the headline, Ontotext decided to personalize all copy on the webpages to demonstrate value to public sector visitors.

Ultimately, the personalization needed to help Government visitors understand how Ontotext can support their industry-specific needs.  

Webeo data revealed that, beyond the homepage, Ontotext’s most popular pages were content and blog pages. Hence, they decided to personalize the homepage, 2x product pages, 2x high-traffic blog pages, plus a conversion page.

Personalization in action

Using IP data, Ontotext was able to identify the Government industry visitors and serve up headlines and supporting copy. Initially, Webeo ran a 50/50 split over two months to test personalized vs non-personalized website conversions. When the personalized option achieved a 301% conversion uplift, Ontotext delivered the campaign to 100% of Government visitors.  

This achieved two things:

It encouraged Government visitors to further explore the website, so they can better understand how Ontotext can support them.

It ensured the visitor experience was relevant throughout the whole journey on the Ontotext website – Government visitors saw more than just a personalized heading.
